As of this update on Feb 23, 2021 the city of Austin has moved to Stage 4 restrictions, down from Stage 5. Blue Velvet is moving to having outdoor 'pop up markets' in front of the shop most days of the week, WEATHER PERMITTING, plus extremely limited capacity inside the shop. IF THE WEATHER IS BAD WE ARE MOST LIKELY CLOSED! Masks are required at all times, over the nose, as is hand-sanitizer upon entering. We have a new e-commerce site for online ordering (shipping or curbside pickup available) here. No cash payments are accepted at this time. Our business status is a fluid situation based on conditions in Austin, so our day-to-day operations may change suddenly. Please call us at 512-452-2583 to check that we are open. Appointments have been suspended while we try to recoup losses from the recent winter storm, thank you for your patience!

Racked named Blue Velvet “one of the very best vintage shops in Austin” for the 2012 “Where To Score Vintage Clothes in Austin” SXSW guide, and the annual Austin Chronicle Reader’s Poll has awarded Blue Velvet Best Vintage Clothing store in Austin six times.

Our shopping district on North Loop Boulevard is a great destination for independent, locally-owned businesses: With SIX vintage stores in a two block radius, including Austin’s legendary vintage furniture shop Room Service, North Loop is truly the “Vintage Row” of Austin!

Check out a great map of vintage stores in Austin at the Vintage Around Town Guide.

Blue Velvet is located in the mid-century-era Highland Plaza Shopping Center at North Loop and Chesterfield, one block east of Guadalupe St. Right next door to us is fantastic open-24-hours Epoch Coffee, and on the other side is our neighbor the amazing all-vinyl record and turntable store Breakaway Records.

North Loop is also home to bars like The Tigress, restaurants (Foreign & Domestic), an alternative book store (Monkey Wrench Books), an independent skate shop (Apparition Skateboards ), and gastropubs such as The Work Horse and DrinkWell.

Blue Velvet Recommended By Lonely Planet!

Blue Velvet is psyched to be included in the 2013 Lonely Planet GuideThey wrote:

“Western wear, vintage T-shirts and even oddities such as all-American bowling wear hang on the racks at Blue Velvet, where you’ll find an equal number of men and women eyeing the goods. Summer fashions are stocked year-round.”

Lonely Planet is the #1 travel publisher in America, and we were “selected for inclusion based purely on merit.” Woot!
